The Chief Minister of Telangana has announced a new scheme to provide free breakfast to students studying in government schools across the state from October 24.
The "Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme’’ will benefit students from classes 1 to 10 and will cost the state government an extra Rs 400 crore per year.
The scheme aims to improve the nutrition and education of the students from poor families and help them focus better on their studies.
The Chief Minister, who is popularly known as KCR, decided to launch the scheme as a Dasara gift and a sign of his humane approach.
He was moved by the plight of the parents of the students who work as farm labourers and leave their homes early in the morning. He also sent a team of IAS officers to study the breakfast scheme in Tamil Nadu and decided to extend it to high school students as well.
