Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday (October 16, 2021) spoke on the upcoming Assembly elections and suggested ways on how the party can 'do well'. Addressing the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting at the AICC headquarters in Delhi, Sonia also stated that she is 'a full-time and hands-on Congress president'.
During her opening remarks at the Congress Working Committee meeting, Sonia Gandhi said that their preparations for the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections had already begun.
"Undoubtedly, we face many challenges, but if we are united, if we are disciplined and if we focus on the Party's interest alone, I am confident that we will do well," she said.
Sonia also spoke on the 'shocking incidents' in Lakhimpur Kheri and attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. She said that the recent incident 'betrays' the mindset of BJP, how it perceives Kisan Andolan (farmers' protest) and how it has been dealing with this determined struggle by farmers to protect their lives and livelihoods.
"I am, if you will allow me to say so, a full-time and hands on Congress President....," Sonia Gandhi told the Congress' top brass.
"I've always appreciated frankness. There is no need to speak to me through the media. So let us all have a free and honest discussion. But what should get communicated outside the four walls of this room is a collective decision of CWC," Sonia Gandhi stated during the meeting.
Sonia Gandhi also condemned the 'sudden spurt' in killings in Jammu and Kashmir and said that minorities clearly have been targeted.
Sonia Gandi also spoke on the revival of Congress and attacked BJP over 'electoral mobilization', economic recovery and rising fuel prices.
Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress chief ministers Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan, Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh and Charanjit Singh Channi of Punjab also attended the meeting.
Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma were also present during the meeting at the AICC headquarters.
