Chia seeds are rich in fibre both soluble as well as insoluble fiber. Soluble fibre has the tendency to absorb water that turns into a gel-like substance, thereby slowing down bowel movements and giving a feeling of satiety. The feeling of fullness aids in reduced caloric intake and thus weight loss.
Chia seeds have hydrophilic properties which means ‘water loving’, absorbing 12 times more water than their weight. Soak a teaspoon in water and they form a gel-like substance, easing out digestion and giving a sense of satiety.
Out of all the macronutrients, protein offers the maximum satiety value and chia seeds have an appreciable amount of protein in them. 100 grams of seeds contain 17 grams of protein, a fair amount making them a good vegan source of protein.
As compared to calories, these seeds are more dense in nutrients than calories such as vitamins, minerals, protein and antioxidants.
These seeds are very easy to incorporate into your diet by adding them to your milk or oatmeal or puddings. Just make sure to include 1-2 teaspoons of this superfood in your daily diet.
