The Shradh also known as “Pitru Paksh” is a holy time and it is essential to become Satvik during this time. As Garlic is Tamasic, we should avoid eating it during Shradh.

Though pulses are good for your body, not all lentils can be eaten during this time period. Lentils like Masoor Dal, Kidney Beans(Rajma), Chana Dal and Chickpeas(Chole) are avoided as they are also Tamasic in Nature.

Consuming Oily or Spicy foods at this time is said to blur mental intelligence which is required for performing rituals. The motive at this time of the month is to remain Satvik and eat plain and easily digestive food.

Onion is also considered Tamasic in Nature, it is believed that eating onion might make you Lazy and Restless. We should only eat foods that keep us Calm during the Shradh period.

Non-veg food includes Fish, Meat, Chicken, Eggs etc. which are Tamasic in Nature. It is believed that if we cook Non-Veg food during Pitru Paksha, it will break negative energies in the home and will not let us grow Spiritually.
