In Pics: Manoj Tiwary to Amit Mishra, 5 unluckiest Indian cricketers

Remember the film Kaun Praveen Tambe? The biopic on a leg-spinner from Mumbai wo refused to give up and went on to take a hat-trick for Rajasthan Royals on his IPL debut at the age of 41. There are heroes like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid in Indian cricket and then there are those who worked hard equally but were not that lucky. Zee News English brings you five such names who had massive cricketing talent but failed to become big names in Indian cricket.

Manoj Tiwary

The Bengal cricketer is a domestic cricket giant with over 9,000 runs in first-class cricket. He played crucial role for KKR in their title win as well. He got his chance for India but never a long rope like Rohit Sharma or Ravindra Jadeja. In total, he played 12 ODIs and 3 T20Is but these chances came intermittently. And then suddenly after a brief stay with the team, he was not in the reckoning. He slammed another ton while playing for Bengal in Ranji Trophy 2022 while he serves as a sitting MLA in his state West Bengal. That shows Tiwary still has it in him to go a long way. Amit Mishra

Leggie Amit Mishra never got his due. It was earlier the combination of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh that kept him out of the team. And then it was the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and co who ended his India career. In his last series for India in 2016, he was declared the Player of the series. Yet he never played for India again. (Image source: Twitter)

Jalaj Saxena

Jalaj Saxena continues to fight for a place in the Indian side. However, the time is running out. The all-rounder from MP has made runs and picked wickets in abundance but has been out of selectors' radar strangely. In 126 first-class games, he has scored 6368 runs while picking 360 wickets for Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. But he never had luck on his side. (Image source: Twitter)

Amol Majumdar

11,167 runs from 171 first-class matches and Amol Majumdar never received an India call-up. He is among the unluckiest cricketers in the country who despite piling on runs season after season never got the opportunity to play for India. It was primarily due to the presence of Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly in the middle order and then the arrival of Virender Sehwagm and Gautam Gambhir who formed a solid Test pair. He was born in the wrong generation. (Image source: Twitter)

Pragyan Ojha

Pragyan Ojha made quick strides to become one of the brighest talents in Indian cricket and MS Dhoni did not waste a minute to get him included in the side. He went on to pick 113 wickets from 24 Tests and played a few ODIs too. He could have had a longer Test career. However, a series of injuries and bad form led to his ouster after which there was no return. We can say that he lost the faith of the board and the selectors after a certain stage. (Image source: Twitter)
