It seems IPL 2024 is still long way to go. But it could be far close than what it appears to be. With Lok Sabha elections due in May this year, we may see the league beginning a little early. However, there is no confirmed date yet. That's why injuries to some of India's top players taking part in IPL 2024 is interesting to watch. Here is the list of injured Indian players who may miss out on the T20 tournament.
Before we look at the injured Indian players list ahead of IPL 2024, we must talk about some Afghanistan players who may not play the league due to a ban. Two of them are Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Fazalhaq Farooqi. While Mujeeb was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 2 crore, Farooqi went to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL, is not injured but he could miss the next edition of the tournament as Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has put sanctions on him for priortising T20 leagues over national cricket. It will be interesting to see what happens in next one month as ACB could be forced to give NOC to him to play IPL.
The ankle injury to some players has India and related IPL teams concerned. One more Indian cricketer injured ahead of the IPL is Mohammed Shami, who is healing the ankle. He missed the SA Tests and ODIs and is likely to miss the Afghanistan T20Is. There is no update on when Shami will return to the cricket field.
Suryakumar Yadav shocked everyone when Mumbai Indians put up a video of him walking with the crutches. Surya picked up an ankle injury during the ODIs vs South Africa and it is believed to be a Garde 2 tear. He will miss the Afghanistan T20Is. If his recovery is slow, it will be interesting to see whether the star MI batter is ready for IPL or not as the league may start a little early in March due to Lok Sabha elections.
Huge, huge worry for Mumbai Indians. Hardik has a history of such injuries which don't look troublesome at the start but it strangely takes a lof of time to get overfitter. Hardik is reportedly missing the Afghanistan T20Is due to the ankle injury. He is expected to be fit by IPL 2024 but it will be interesting to see this development.
Dhoni has had his struggle with the knee. He has been seen having issues with it in last IPL. When the season ended, he had said that it all depends on how his body is reacting when asked if he is returning to play another IPL. In a video shared while Dhoni was on a visit to his native village in Uttarakhand, he was seen having issues while coming down on the steps. 'Thala' was retained by Chennai Super King (CSK) which means he is coming for the sixth IPL trophy. But it will be interesting to see how he copes up with the knee.
