Pune`s new mayor is descendant of Bal Gangadhar Tilak - Know more about Mukta Tilak
The BJP grabbed 98 of the 162 seats in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the last month`s elections, enough for Mukta Tilak to get the coveted post.
Pune: Mukta Tilak, who earlier this week filed papers for the post of Pune Municipal Corporation’s mayor, is a descendant of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
The 52-year-old filed nomination form for the post of Mayor on March 08 after the BJP cleared her candidature.
The election is scheduled for March 15.
She is set to get the post given the BJP's majority in the new civic body.

Tilak completed her graduation in psychology from Fergusson College and later did MBA (marketing) from IMDR, Pune.
She also holds a diploma in journalism from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
She worked as a market research analyst in MNCs before entering politics and had been elected Corporator four times.
Navnath Kamble of RPI (A), an ally of BJP, has filed nomination for the Deputy Mayor's post.
Tilak's nephew Rohit Tilak, the grandson of Jayantrao Tilak, is a Congress leader.
