Ludhiana: The family of Sukhdev Thapar have demanded that he along with other revolutionaries Bhagat Singh and Rajguru should be given the status of martyrs. They on Thursday that the trio gave their lives for the country, but still even after 70 years of Independence, they have not been given the status of martyrs.
The family of Sukhdev has warned that if the three freedom fighters are given their due then they will go on a hunger strike.
A relative of Sukhdev said, "Our demand is that they should be given the status of martyrs. We are going to Delhi on Friday. We will place our demands there. If our demands are not met then we will go on hunger strike."

Sukhdev was a senior member of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. He was hanged on 23 March 1931 at the age of 23.
Shivaram Hari Rajguru was from Maharashtra. He along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev, was hanged for the 'assassination' of a British police officer, JP Saunders in Lahore in 1928. In his honour, his birthplace of Khed has since been renamed as Rajgurunagar.
Bhagat Singh acts of bravery against the British made him a hero of the Independence movement. He was executed at age 23.
