Real Estate industry opposes ban on construction work in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi: Realtors' body CREDAI today opposed the NGT order banning construction activities in Delhi-NCR saying this will not help in solving the pollution problem and rather impact adversely the delivery of real estate projects.

The association demanded that crop residue burning should be stopped and streets should be proper landscaped in the national capital region to deal with the pollution issue.

National Green Tribunal today passed a slew of measures to improve the ambient air quality in the national capital including banning construction activities and operation of stone crushers and brick kilns for a week in Delhi-NCR.

Reacting to this order, CREDAI President Getamber Anand said: "A holistic 360 degree view should be taken to find out the real cause of pollution. By banning construction, solution will not be found. In developed countries, this does not happen."

"Crop burning should be stopped. There should be proper landscaping on the streets in the Delhi-NCR. Loose earth causes dust and this problem should be fixed. Banning construction activities is not the answer. This will not help," Anand said.

The stoppage of construction work and then starting it again takes lot of time, he said, adding that labourers would also return to their native place.

"The ban on construction work will delay the delivery of projects," Anand said.

"Pune and Bengaluru depsite having as much construction activities as NCR do not have dust pollution because of effective landscaping all over the cities by the municipal bodies," he observed.

The green panel came down heavily on Delhi and other neighbouring states for not taking steps to control stubble burning and directed them to give complete mechanism on implementation of its directions by tomorrow to curb air pollution.
