New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Monday approved the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award committee. By doing the same, the 67-year-old politician confirmed that renowned film director and actor Shri Kasinadhuni Viswanath will be conferred with the 48th Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2016.

Viswanath will be bestowed this honour for his for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of indian cinema. The ceremony will take place on May 3 this year at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi.


Here, the 87-year-old star will be presented with a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus) along with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs and a shawl.


Viswanath's work highlights social and human issues. His films are appreciated and loved by people of all age groups.

Viswanath's Swati Mutyam was India's official entry to the 59th Academy Awards.
