Bright meteor streaks across Florida night sky before crashing into Earth (Watch video)

New Delhi: A super-bright meteor streaked across the Florida night skies on November 21 before it crashed into the Earth.

According to Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, the fireball likely travelled at 40 000 mph and vaporized as it hit the atmosphere, lighting up the sky.

The spectacular event of the bright meteor was captured on phones and dashcoms and has prompted some locals to call police amid fears of an alien invasion.

Despite its huge size, the meteor did not cause any damage, and landed in the ocean just east of Anna Maria Island.

The American Meteorological Society said they have received over 150 reports so far about the

fireball event that was seen primarily from Florida. But the event was also seen from Georgia and Alabama .

As per the American Meteorological Society, s fireball is another term for a very bright meteor, generally brighter than magnitude -4, which is about the same magnitude of the planet Venus in the morning or evening sky.
