Dubai: Japanese shuttlers Kento Momota and Nozomi Okuhara emerged champions in the men's and women's singles categories, respectively, in the BWF Superseries Finals at the Hamdan Sports Complex here on Sunday.
While world No.5 Momota beat Denmark's Viktor Axelsen 21-15, 21-12 in 36 minutes, world No. 4 Okuhara overcame world No. 3 Yihan Wang from China 22-20, 21-18 in an hour and three minutes.
The 20-year-old Okuhara broke out in tears when she completed the match after one hour and three minutes, reports Xinhua.
"These were tears of happiness, it was a really hard match," said Okuhara.
Shanghai-born elite shuttler Yihan said she got affected mentally when she challenged a shuttle which was indicated out and the video analysis proved that it was out.
The two right-handed players Okuhara and Yihan took home $42,000 and $20,000 prize money, respectively.
Nagano-born Okuhara said that her big goal next year is the Rio Olympics in August "because I never attended any Olympic Games before".
Meanwhile, Chinese twin shuttlers Luo Ying and Luo Yu won the women's doubles title, beating Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl from Denmark.
The Chinese were leading 14-21, 21-9, 14-4 when the Danes retired in the third set as Pedersen suffered from stomach problems.
The 24-year-old Ying and Yu, world No.2, said the victory was the result of their hard work "as we played overall a great season in 2015".
After losing the first game 14-21, the Luo twins managed to turn the tables and won the next two sets 21-9 and 14-4. Pedersen felt not well, so the Danes retired early in the third set.
In the mixed double final, Adcock couple, Chris and Gabriele defeated South Korean pair of Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Ha Na 21-14, 21-17 in 37 minutes.
Indonesian men's doubles pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan beat China's Chai Biao and Hong Wei 13-21, 21-14, 21-14 in 53 to bag the championship.
