Supreme Court stays Meghalaya HC order; Premier Badminton League receives green signal

Hearing on a plea, an apex court bench today stayed the HC order, allowing the Badminton Association of India (BAI) to hold the league.

New Delhi: After days of uncertainties, Premier Badminton League (PBL) received green signal from the Supreme Court to go ahead on Thursday.

With only a fortnight to the start of the league, Meghalaya High Court had passed a stay order after Sobhagaya Media Private Limited filed a petition challenging the validity of the franchisee meet held in New Delhi on December 6.

The BAI, then, rushed to the Supreme Court for an early resolution to the issue, pleading that HC had no jurisdiction to entertain the petition and the court erred in staying the tournament.

Facing uncertainty, the BAI rushed to the Supreme Court which stayed the HC order and allowed the Association to hold the tournament which will feature six franchises and several international players.

The tournament, featuring feature six franchises and several international players, is scheduled to be held from January 2 to January 17.

It will have have 18 matches, including two semifinals and one final match. The final match is scheduled for January 17.
