Changsha (China): The Indian men's basketball team finished eighth in the FIBA Asia Championship after suffering a 58-84 loss to Qatar, here.
It is the third time that the Indian side finished eighth, having gained similar results in the 2001 and 2003 editions of the Asian Championships that were also held in China at Harbin and Shanghai respectively.
The Indian team played nine matches in 11 days.
Amjyot emerged as India's highest scorer with 21 points.
He was supported well by Arvind Arumugam (16) and veteran Vishesh Bhriguvanshi (10).
For Qatar, Mohamed Hasan was the best player as he bagged 28 points, while Abduallah Matalkeh (16) and Daoud M. Daoud (16) also contributed for their team.
China qualified for the 2016 Rio Games after wining the championship following a 78-67 triumph over Philippines in the final.
