2016 CPL: It’s really special to be playing in the Caribbean, says Brendon McCullum

The New Zealand retiring skipper will represent Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL.

New Delhi: Hard-hitting New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum has stated that it is really special to play in the Carribean as he will be seen plying his trade in the domestic Twenty20 League there.

McCullum, who will be focusing on domestic Twenty20 leagues around the world, is among several international players selected to play in the fourth edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) due to start later this year.

McCullum stated that the fan engagement and carnival atmosphere will make it really special for him to play in the Carribean.

“I’m super excited to be featuring in this edition of the 2016 CPL. It’s really special to be playing in the Caribbean; the fan engagement and carnival atmosphere is something I’ve heard a lot from a lot of players around the world,” said McCullum.

He went on to add that he is fond of cultural aspects of the Carribean.

“My favourite memories of playing in the West Indies are in touring around some of the boutique grounds I’ve been involved in. I guess there are the cultural aspects of the Caribbean (as well), and just getting to meet some of the great people over there.”

The New Zealand retiring skipper will represent Trinbago Knight Riders, one of six franchises in the CPL. The franchise also has South African Hashim Amla, Umar Akmal of Pakistan and former West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan.

McCullum has been a revelation in the T20 format and has scored a commendable 2,140 runs from 71 T20 International matches with a top score of 123.

He will also represent Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League starting April 2016.
