Anil Kumble's appointment: This is what 'disappointed' Ravi Shastri, Sandeep Patil said...

New Delhi: Apart from Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri and Sandeep Patil were the two other high-profile candidates in the race to become India's next coach.

After a round of interview with the Cricket Advisory Committee however, the legendary leg-spinner was appointed by the BCCI for the position for a period of one year.

Considering all the major candidates have either played or worked with each other in different capacities, it only natural to assume that competing for the same job could have been a bit awkward.

Speaking to Mid-Day, Ravi Shastri and Sandeep Patil had interesting remarks to make. While there was no hint of disappointment at Patil's end, Shastri was however not entirely pleased.

The duo however, congratulated Kumble and wished him the best.

"Yes, for the work put in, and results produced in the last 18 months. But if it (tenure) was for only one year then, not really. It's time to move on and do what you do best. I must say I had the ultimate experience with a young and happening side. I wish Anil and the team all the luck," Shastri told the newspaper when asked if he was disappointed with BCCI's decision.

"I am very happy for Anil. I congratulated him in advance because he was a frontrunner. We had a fabulous committee to choose the new coach and I'm glad we have selected him.
Let's not get into why 'A', 'B' or 'C' didn't get picked. Now that the coach is selected, let us back him to the hilt," said Patil.

Kumble's first assignment with the team will be the tour to West Indies next month.
