Apart from one T20 World Cup, we have done well in this format: MS Dhoni

Dhoni also said that T20 is a format where the players have more opportunity to express themselves.

New Delhi: India's limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is confident that India will do well in the upcoming Asia Cup.

Speaking at a press conference, Dhoni said that India have been consistent in the T20I format barring one World Cup where they were not up to the mark.

"There have been quite a few T20 tournaments where we have done well. We have also reached the finals but we couldn't win it. It's all part and parcel of the game but I feel it's not like we are not playing good cricket. Apart from maybe one T20 World Cup, where we didn't perform too well, other than that we have been quite decent when it comes to T20 format," he said in a video shared by BCCI on Twitter.

Dhoni also added that T20 is a format where the players have more opportunity to express themselves.

"It's one format where you can be expressive. At the same time, there is less pressure on the players to some extent. They can go out there, be expressive on the field, play a few deliveries then go for the big shots,"

Under Dhoni's captaincy, India won back-to-back T20I series against Sri Lanka and Australia recently.

The Asia Cup will be played in Bangladesh from February 24 to March 6.

A qualifying round will begin on February 19, between Afghanistan, UAE, Hong Kong and Oman. The winner of the qualifying round will join the four Full Member teams in the region for the main draw which starts from February 24.

For the first time in Asia Cup history, the tournament will be played in T20I format considering the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 to be held in India.
