BCCI bans Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf for 5 years over corruption charges

New Delhi: The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) on Friday banned Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf for five years for violating board's Anti-Corruption Code.

The decision was taken by the board's disciplinary committee which met at the BCCI HQ, Cricket Centre, Mumbai.

Rauf was accused by Mumbai Police of being involved in fixing-related activities during IPL 2013, in a separate case not featuring S Sreesanth and two others.

Earlier in 2013, Rauf has ruled out travelling to Mumbai for any investigation into the IPL spot-fixing scandal in which he was chargesheeted by the Mumbai police.

"We have full faith in the Indian courts but not in the Mumbai police. The present circumstances don`t allow me to travel to India," Rauf said.

"But I have consulted my lawyers and I am willing to fully cooperate with any inquiry by the ICC anti-corruption and security unit," he said.

The Pakistani umpire has suffered a fall from grace since being named in the IPL spot fixing scandal. He was first dropped from the now defunct Champions Trophy umpires panel and then was not retained on the ICC Elite panel of umpires.
