Asia Cup 2016: Mahendra Singh Dhoni will want Team India to continue rich form

New Delhi: India capped off with a perfect 2-1 T20I series victory against Sri Lanka on Sunday in the build up for the upcoming Asia Cup that starts from February 24.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side came back strongly against the Lankans despite losing the first T20I in Pune. What will please Dhoni most is the way his side dictated the show in Ranchi and Vishakapatnam. India were supreme in all departments and some crucial players stood out.

Ahead of the important Asia Cup tourney in Bangladesh, Dhoni couldn't have asked for better back-to-back shows against Australia and Sri Lanka respectively.

India will face an in-form Bangladesh in the opening encounter before taking on their arch-rivals Pakistan two days later. A victory against these two teams will see Dhoni's side setting the tone for the rest of the tournament.

The skipper has said on Sunday that "consistent" performances will give his side confidence going into big ticket tournaments.

The Asia Cup will serve as another big platform in terms of confidence ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 next month.

So far the skipper has seen most of the boxes being ticked in both batting and bowling departments. The young duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have stepped up as old gun Ashish Nehra showed why he is so pivotal for the side in T20 format. The batsmen too have impressed and that is a positive factor for India.

Dhoni's unknown territory lies with the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Pawan Negi, who haven't featured in a game yet. Also Yuvraj Singh, who faltered in Pune, hasn't got much time in the middle. Dhoni's keeping behind the wickets has been lauded but he is yet to rediscover his rhythm with the willow.

The skipper will hope these areas too get a positive outlook in the Asia Cup, as the team's biggest test awaits in the World T20.

India will face Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and a qualifier in the mega event starting from March 8.
