Australia vs India: Spinners could have done better, says MS Dhoni after Perth defeat

New Delhi: India's limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni put the blame on Indian spinners for losing the first ODI against Australia as he admitted on Tuesday that his tweakers failed to perform at their absolute best at the WACA ground.

“...I felt that was an area when there was a lot of pressure on us, because the spinners also went for quite a few boundaries. So, I felt that was a phase where we could have bowled slightly differently may be. They could have done better when it comes to bowling," Dhoni said in the post match conference.

However, the Indian skipper was of the view that Indian pacers did a good job in the opening encounter.

"The fast bowlers bowled well and gave us a good start with two wickets. That is the kind of start you need when you put runs on the board.

"Bari bowled really well. He was hitting the right areas which I feel is important. Also, being the left arm bowler, I think he has a slight advantage of the angle that goes away from the right hander batsmen. So, I felt overall he bowled really well."

India is now trailing 1-0 in the five-match ODI series. Next math of the high-profile series is scheduled to take place in Brisbane on January 15.
