Perth: Stylish Indian right-hander Rohit Sharma once again received massive praise from cricket fraternity with his blistering 171-run knock against Australia in 1st ODI of the five-match series at WACA ground on Monday.
Rohit, who once again carried the bat throughout the innings, achieved a rare feat where he broke a 37-year-old record held by West Indies legend Vivian Richards. The West Indian had the record of highest individual score against the Aussies on their home soil, courtesy his 153-run knock which came at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 9, 1979.
But the Hitman of Indian cricket, surpassed the legendary cricketer's record, as he smashed Australia's inexperienced bowling attack to every corner at Perth.
Here are some other records Rohit broke during his magnificent knock:
1) Rohit became the first Indian batsman to score a century at Perth in ODIs.
2) Rohit's 171* is now also the highest unbeaten ODI score in Australia. The record was previously held by AB de Villiers who scored 162* vs West Indies at SCG in Feb 2015.
3) Rohit also became the quickest to score 1,000 ODI runs against the Aussies. The Mumbaikar achieved the feat in just 9 innings ahead of legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara.
4) Rohit has now joined Tendulkar on top in the list of batsmen who have scored highest 170-plus scores (3) in ODIs.
