Australian skipper Steve Smith seeks explanation on DRS malfunction

New Delhi: After yet another DRS failure during his team’s victory over West Indies in the second Test on Tuesday, Australian skipper Steve Smith is all set to seek an explanation from the match referee Chris Broad.

The incident happened when the Jason Holder-led side were wobbling to keep the match alive at 210 for five. One of Peter Siddle's delivery hit the Windies skipper on the pads and Smith demanded a review as field umpire Marais Erasmus turned down the appeal.

The umpire followed the protocols of checking for a no-ball and a nick on the bat, but there was an awkward pause as the Hawk-Eye ball-tracking failed to display on the scoreboard.

It took some time for the malfunction to sink in and Erasmus finally said that the DRS had failed. After some time, the technology was back.

“We've made a few enquiries and we're going to talk to the match referee later on,“ Smith told reporters. “But it's not ideal if it's shut down and not working."
