BCCI could strip TNCA of World T20 game: Report

Chepauk faces the heat to resolve the stands issue as missing out on T20 WC looms.

BCCI could strip TNCA of World T20 game: Report

New Delhi: With the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), unable to resolve the unavailability of three stands to the public, the BCCI has decided to issue an ultimatum.

According to a report in the Indian Express, Chennai’s MA Chidambaram stadium might miss out on hosting the 2016 ICC World T20 games.

If the TNCA fails to resolve the issue as soon as possible, it might face a relocation of the T20 World Cup games. MA Chidambaram's I, J, and K stands collectively have the capacity of 12,000 seats which had been sealed off since an ODI against West Indies in November 2011.

Reports also claim that the Chennai Corporation have issued a lock-and-seal notice citing lack of building approval for reconstruction work in the three stands. Despite the construction of new galleries, which were built replacing some old stands, it hasn't been open to the public for few years now.

Indian Premier League and international matches, including the recent ODI between India and South Africa, saw those three stands go untenanted.
