Brendon McCullum 'one of cricket's finest ambassadors, hails Vivian Richards

New Delhi: Brendon McCullum, who hit the fastest ever Test century on Saturday, has been hailed by West Indies legend Vivian Richards as one of the finest ambassadors of cricket.

The retiring skipper played a blistering innings of 145 runs off 79 delivering, reaching his 12th century off mere 54 balls, on the first day of on-going second Test against Australia at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.

The 34-year-old thus recreated the record for fastest century, which was previously in the names of Richards and Pakistan's Misbah-ul-Haq, off 56 balls each.

Richards, who is currently mentoring Quetta in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), also congratulated McCullum for reaching the milestone and for making the game of cricket beautiful, Sport24 reported.

The batting legend, who set the record against England in 1986, admitted that McCullum was a batsman whom he would have wanted to surpass his milestone.

McCullum is playing his 101st and the farewell match.
