The 38-year-old will romance Indian actress Tannishtha Chatterjee in this cross cultural romantic comedy. The story revolves around the relationship between divorcee and single mother, Meera played by Tannishtha, and an unresistable Aussie block Will, played by Lee.
UnIndian is filmed entirely in the Australian state of New South Wales, and it is already billed to be a huge hit in India, where Lee has a vast fan base thanks to his cricket exploits. He had previously recorded a song in India, You're The One For Me, with celebrated singer Asha Bhosle in 2006.
Directed and co-produced by Anupam Sharma, unIndian is funded by Australia India Film Fund (AIFF), which was established in 2013 to invest in Australian films with Indian themes for a global audience. It is Lee's first film as a leading actor.
The film was announced by former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott during his India tour in 2014. It is co-produced by Lisa Duff, from a story and screenplay by Thushy Sathi, with executive producers Devendra Gupta and Chandru Tolani.
Anupam Sharma is best known for producing Bollywood movies filmed in Australia, like Dil Chahta Hai and Heyy Babyy.
The film also stars John Howard, Tiriel Mora, Maya Sathimoorthy, Arka Das, Sarah Roberts, Adam Dunn, Nicholas Brown, Kumud Merani, Supriyaji Pathak Kapur, Akash Kurana and Gulshan Grover, with a special appearance by Pallavi Sharda.
The movie’s official trailer was released in July.
