Tiruchirappalli: DMK MLA A Soundarapandian was on Saturday arrested in connection with an alleged land grabbing case, police said.
The legislator from Lalgudi constituency in the district was arrested in the early hours near Samayapuram toll gate on the outskirts of the city when he was returning from the airport after seeing off DMK treasurer M K Stalin. Stalin was on his way to Chennai after taking part in a public meeting in Pudukottai district yesterday. Soundarapandian was produced before judicial magistrate Pushparani who remanded him in custody for 15 days.
Former minister and senior DMK leader K N Nehru has already been arrested along with three others on Aug 25 in connection with the case. According to the complaint lodged by K Srinivasan of Turaiyur near here, Nehru and others had taken 13,290 sq ft of his land at Chinamani in Tiruchi for construction of DMK party office, by forcibly obtaining his signature and "misusing" official power.
There are 11 accused in the case, including Nehru`s brother K N Ramajayam and Tiruchirappalli Deputy Mayor M Anbazhagan.
Complainant Srinivasan had yesterday said that he had not taken part in the inaugural function of the DMK office that was allegedly constructed on his premises. Denying a statement made by Stalin to that effect, Srinivasan said he had been in Tirupathi on that that and that he was also not invited for the inaugural function.
