Disparity in IPL salary, scheduling come under fire: Report
The Lodha panel also criticised the BCCI for using its players to eke out more and more money from the league.
New Delhi: BCCI's cash-rich Indian Premier League has come under scrutiny for an imbalance in salaries that is said to have created heartburn among national players. Justice RM Lodha committee's report on this section of the IPL has narrated an untold story.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, imbalance in IPL salaries has caused heartburn among India players with a cheaper price tag than those who are yet to play for the country.
The report says that, several IPL players with modest credentials, are richly remunerated by the franchisees while those who represent the national team are given lesser money and that has caused some heartburn.
The Lodha panel also criticised the BCCI for using its players to eke out more and more money from the league.
The panel stated that the Indian cricket calendar is annually adjusted to accommodate as many days of IPL as possible more than just entertainment, it has turned out to be a bastion of the sport in the country.
The panel added that the aim of the BCCI should be to attract the best possible cricketing talent to the national side. With several international players refusing to play in the lucrative cash-rich league to preserve themselves for national duty, shows a path which is necessary for cricket in India.
The committee also suggested a solution to this by stating that the BCCI should ensure at least a 15-day gap is provided between the IPL season and the national calendar.
With lots of cricket played in a calendar year, it takes up a substantial toll on a professional cricketer’s body and longevity in the game.
