Former Indian spinner Sunil Joshi joins Oman as bowling coach

Oman will have a 10-day camp in Rajkot, starting December 20, before their First/Group Round matches for the World Cup.

New Delhi: Former Indian spinner Sunil Joshi has become the spin-bowling coach of Oman. He will join head coach Duleep Mendis as the middle-eastern prepares for their maiden World Twenty20 campaign in India next year.

"It gives me an opportunity to work with an international team in such a big event. I believe a coach should be able to demonstrate (in practice sessions) what he teaches." Joshi told the Hindu.

"Duleep Mendis is the head coach and we can both relate a lot on how to play and bowl spin. Eventually it would help the team to be aware of the nuances of slow bowling," the 45-year-old added.

Joshi played 15 Test and 69 ODI matches for India taking 41 wickets, 69 wickes respectively. The slow left-arm orthodox made his debut in June 1996 against England in the Birmingham Test and played the last match in March 2001, in a ODI match against Australia in Pune.

Oman will have a 10-day camp in Rajkot, starting December 20, before their First/Group Round matches for the World Cup. They are placed alongside Bangladesh, Ireland and Netherlands in the Group A.

They qualified through the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, played in Ireland and Scotland between in July 2015.
