Good day for India at Australian Open: Sania Mirza, Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna continue winning run
Earlier, Sania Mirza and Hingis won their women`s doubles second round match.
New Delhi: It was a good day for India at the Australian Open as Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna won their respective mixed-doubles matches to reach second round on Sunday.
Indo-Swiss pair of Paes and Martina Hingis, who are also the defending champions, got the better of Russian-British pairing of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Dominic Inglot.
The match at the Margaret Court Arena lasted for an hour and nine minutes as the duo won the game in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
The pair will now lock horns with American-Dutch team of Sloane Stephens and Jean-Julien Rojer.
Apart from that, Indo-Chinese Taipei pair of Bopanna and Yung-Jan Chan beat local pair of Kimberly Birrell and John Millman 7-5, 6-1 inside 50 minutes.
Earlier, Sania Mirza and Hingis won their women's doubles second round match.
However, Bopanna's lost his men's doubles match with Romanian partner Florin Mergea to Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi in the third round.
