New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC), during it's first board meeting of 2016, has declared that the sixth World Twenty20 in India will be "the biggest and best cricket event ever held."
Cricket's global body released a statement on outcomes from the board meeting held in Dubai on 3 February.
Among many other things pertaining to governance and scheduling of international cricket, the board members and Chairman Shashank Manohar also discussed the preparedness of the 2016 World T20, which will take place from 8 March to 3 April in India.
"The Board was informed that preparations for the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 were progressing smoothly, and the BCCI and the ICC were working closely to put together a truly world-class and an unforgettable event," the statement read.
In the statement, the ICC also revealed that the "operational budget" of the tournament has also been increased.
"The ICC Board approved an increased operational budget for the event in order to ensure that no stone was left unturned in ensuring that the ICC and the BCCI could achieve their joint objectives of making this event the biggest and best cricket event ever held," it added.
Besides the ten full member nations, six Associate member nations will play in the tournament with Sri Lanka defending the title.
