ICC World Twenty20: Has Yuvraj Singh done enough to cement his place?

New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh is no ordinary cricketer. He has the charm and most importantly the wherewithal to win any match single-handedly, at least in the limited the overs' formats. And after his great escape in Sydney, the Punjab player is back in the focus.

But the pertinent question which remains to be answered is, has the seasoned all-rounder done enough to cement his place in the Indian squad, say, at least for the upcoming Sri Lanka series and all-important ICC World Twenty20 in India?

The answer is a yes? Why? Because, in the limited opportunities that he got Down Under, the 34-year-old seems to have emerged as a confident player, who knew how to bid his time to explode in the opportune moment, all for team's cause.

His exploits, rather performances against Australia in the three-match Twenty20 International series paled in comparison to the ones produced by the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina. But what mattered for Yuvraj was getting into the groove, winning back his own confidence. And it was evident that he had recaptured his lost touch during the series.

That's what a proven match-winner needed.

A confident Yuvraj is still India's best bet when it comes to crunch outings. After those three outings, with some more possible outings in store against Sri Lanka and also during the Asia Cup, Yuvraj can finally feel himself a part of the Indian team, which in turn will uplift his moral like anything.

The series against Sri Lanka, and also the Asia Cup in Bangladesh will be a perfect testing ground for both the Indian team and the player, ahead of the ICC tournament. In familiar surroundings, in front of his followers, Yuvraj can once again channel his inner self and play like a true champion.

Having said that, there is no certainty that he will come out with flying colours, but stalling his comeback after few failures will only limit India's chances. He is too big player to ignore.

When the Indian selectors meet on Friday to select the teams for the Sri Lanka series and World T20, they are likely to be confronted with the same question: Has Yuvi done enough to retain his place?
