ICC World T20: South African all-rounder JP Duminy ruled out of West Indies game

Duminy is South Africa's leading scorer in T20Is with 1,654 runs in 70 matches.

New Delhi: South African cricket team suffered a major blow on Tuesday as their all-rounder JP Duminy has been ruled out of their next match of the ICC World Twenty20 against West Indies.

Hamstring strain, which Duminy picked while fielding in Sunday's 37-run victory over Afghanistan, was the reason behind his unavailability.

It could hurt Proteas badly as Duminy has been in superb nick with bat and ball. In the match against Afghanistan, the 31-year-old, not just scored 83 runs from 48 balls without being dismissed but also took 1-31 in three overs.

Duminy is South Africa's leading scorer in T20Is.

"The scans which were done yesterday (Monday) confirmed our clinical suspicion of a hamstring strain which means that he will be ruled out of Friday's game against the West Indies in Nagpur," team manager Mohammed Moosajee said in a Cricket South Africa statement on Tuesday.

"The plan is to try and get him ready for our last round-robin match against Sri Lanka in Delhi on Sunday."

South Africa will play their crucial Group 1 match on Friday against spirited West Indies at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur.
