ICC World Twenty20, 1st semi-final: England vs New Zealand – Players to watch out for

New Delhi: England and New Zealand are all set to play the first semi-final of the ICC World Twenty20 at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, Delhi on Wednesday.

While New Zealand have made it to the semis, without losing a single game, England finished 2nd in Group 1 to reach this far.

Both the teams have plenty of match-winners in their side but the team that will play spin well on that particular day has a better chance of booking a berth in the final.

Ahead of the 1st semi-final, have a look at the players from both the sides who could play a crucial role on March 30.

Joe Root: The top-order batsman has been in fine form with the willow. His match-winning 83-run knock against South Africa is certainly one of the best innings in the sixth edition of the coveted tournament. He has scored 168 runs in four matches of the tourney and would be a key player for England.

Ben Stokes: The all-rounder has under-performed so far in the four matches of WT20. But he is big-match player, who can turn the match single-handedly. He is a dangerous player of the shortest format, where he can change the entire complexion of the game in a couple of overs. For Kiwi bowlers, he would be a key wicket.

Martin Guptill: The dangerous opener has been in stupendous form. He first smashed 39 against Australia and then played a swashbuckling knock of 80 off 48 balls. The kind of form he is in, he could destroy any bowling line up in the world. A good start, up the order, would certainly help Black Caps to put England under pressure.

Mitchell Santner: The slow left-arm orthodox bowler is certainly the find of the tournament for Kiwis. He has scalped nine wickets in four WT20 matches. His performance against hosts India in the opening clash was outstanding, where he ran away with four wickets. He might pose a threat to England batsmen, who generally struggle while facing spinners.
