Ind vs Ban: The name is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and he is still the one!

New Delhi: There were funeral processions, obituaries, and never ending postmortems waiting for the Indian team. And the captain of the team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, was soon to become the target of many 'patriots'.

That's the script, until the 39.3 overs. Then like a cult classic, the script took unlikeliest of turns to give India a victory over Bangladesh in their Super 10 Group 2 match of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 on Wednesday at Bangalore.

The one run win also provided India that much needed breathing space, as their world cup campaign enter a crucial phase.

Besides the points, and the joy of billions, what stood out in that chaotic environment was the brilliance of a man named Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The skipper stood there as if nothing has happened after conducting a perfect heist.

For mere mortals, the Bangalore cauldron would have proved boiled the guts out of system. But Dhoni rose above the challenge and produced probably one of his best performances, as a captain and also behind the stumps.

Here, it's also important to note that Dhoni, the batsman somehow failed to hit the note. He did crossed the 1000-run mark in Twenty20 Internationals and he is the first one to do so without a 50. But, his batting display left much to be desired.

After posting a below-par total of 147 runs against a spirited Bangladesh, India needed to come back again and again at their own den. And Dhoni just about perfectly marshaled his resources to give India the win.

But the couple of things that stood out was his stumping of Sabbir Rahman and the run out of Mustafizur Rahman. Those two moments will be watched, and discussed over and over again.

Bangladesh were cruising with Sabbir Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan at the crease. But in the third ball of the ninth over, Dhoni produced produced an incredible, indescribable stumping to get rid of Rahman.

Suresh Raina, bowling his first over, sent down a wide down the leg side. Sabbir, chasing the delivery, lost balance but with both feet inside the crease. There, Dhoni, after collecting the ball from wide of the radar completed an outrageously fast stumping while the batsman was coursing his feet over.

Then the Indian skipper possibly ran the fastest dash of his life to effect the run out of the last ball of the innings to give Indian the win. It could have gone wrong if he tried throwing the ball, but he took on the non-striker Mustafizur Rahman and beat to the stumps.
