New Delhi: India limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will have to pay a fine of Rs.1.59lakh levied by the Ranchi transport department for 15-year registration of his imported Hummer H2 vehicle that is said to be valued at Rs.43 lakh.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the payment of the fine would give lifetime registration to Dhoni's Hummer.
The India captain's Hummer was ‘mistakenly’ registered as a Scorpio by the transport office in his home town Ranchi.
District transport officer told HT, that based on the current value of the vehicle, the payment would give lifetime registration to Dhoni’s vehicle.
“The current value of the car is about Rs.43 lakh. The payment of Rs.1,59,804 would give lifetime registration to Dhoni’s vehicle,” said Ranchi district transport officer Nagendar Paswan.
With the Hummer costing at least thrice the price of a Scorpio, the registration value therefore went up.
Paswan added that the exact dues could not be calculated due to a link failure.
Meanwhile, on March 21, Dhoni’s representative had handed over the invoice, registration card, insurance papers and owner manual of the vehicle to the district transport office. But owing to the missing of the customs papers of the vehicle, it led to delaying the process, said Paswan.
Reports also claim that the transport department received the customs papers on Wednesday and proceeded with the calculations.
Paswan also said that the typing error will be rectified.
“During online updating in 2012, the Hummer changed to a Scorpio, which was a typing error. We will rectify it,” Paswan said.
