New Delhi: In a major blow to England's preparations of salvagaing some pride against India in fifth and final Test, James Anderson has been ruled out of the last Test match.

Skipper Alastair Cook said that the reason behind it was soreness.

"It is a bit of everything, ankle and shoulder. A bit of bowling soreness. We are trying to look after him," Cook was quoted as saying by BBC.

Anderson made a comeback in the Test squad for the second match of the ongoing series after the first Test ended in a draw at Rajkot.

The 34-year-old paceman, England's record Test wicket-taker, came off a shoulder injury which ruled him out of the drawn series in Bangladesh and there were fears that he would miss most of the India tour.

Returning from a stress fracture in his right shoulder, Anderson's last Test appearance came in August against Pakistan at the Oval.

A decision on Stuart Broad will be taken after practice on Thursday.
