New Delhi: Since making his Test debut early this month, off-spinner Jayant Yadav has become the talking point of cricket world. And on Monday, the 26-year-old joined an illustrious company.
Coming to bat at nine down, the right-handed batsman scored a brilliant 55 off 141 balls on the third day of third Test against England at Mohali. He thus became only the fifth number nine Indian player to post a fifty against England.
The list has four legends in Bapu Nadkarni, Farokh Engineer, Syed Kirmani and Anil Kumble.
He was involved in two productive partnerships, first with Ravindra Jadeja (90) for 80 runs, then another 33 with Umesh Yadav (10).
Those stands towards the end of the innings, helped India post a very good total of 417 and gained a 134 runs. He took two wickets in England's first innings.
In his debut match at Visakhapatnam in the second match of the series, Yadav scored 35 and 27 besides taking four wickets.
