Mumbai Test: Jayant Yadav becomes India's first No. 9 to score a Test hundred

New Delhi: Jayant Yadav on Sunday became India's first no. 9 batsman to score a hundred as India take complete control on the fourth day of fourth Test against England.

The 26-year-old reached his maiden Test hundred with a single off the fifth ball of the 174th over, bowled by Chris Woakes.

But the Delhi batsman soon got out, stumped, off the bowling of Adil Rashid in the 177th over.

He made 104 off 204 balls, which included 15 fours.

In the process, Yadav became the 16th batsman to score a hundred at No. 9.

The previous highest highest by an Indian at this position was a 90 by Farokh Engineer against New Zealand at Chennai in 1965.

But the highest score for a No. 9 batsman belongs to Kiwi Ian Smith, who made 173 off 136 against India at Auckland in 1990.

England's injured pacer Stuart Broad made 169 off 297 against Pakistan at Lord's in 2010 to occupy the second spot.
