Ravi Shastri takes a dig at Sourav Ganguly, says Bengal is not limited to just one prince

Shastri invented a new epithet, calling Shami as 'Sultan of Bengal’.

New Delhi: The animosity between two former India captains Ravi Shastri and Sourav Ganguly is well known, but the tension has since subsided. It seemed Shastri has stoked the fire again by taking a dig at the 'Prince of Kolkata' during the first session of Day 3 of India-England second Test at Visakhapatnam.

Shastri while praising the current Indian bowling line-up said that Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami constitute one of the best pace attacks and termed them ‘Vidarbha Express’ and ‘Sultan of Bengal’ respectively.

The birth of new epithet involving Bengal prompted Ian Botham to enquired the former Team India director whether the 'Prince' of Bengal already exist, obviously referring to Ganguly.

On that Shastri replied saying there Bengal is not limited to just one prince. It may well read a harmless dig at his bete noire, but Ganguly fans are likely to be offended.

It's worth mentioning that during the course of Team India coach selection, the two legends had a clash.

Shastri was the favourite for the Team India job, but the four-man Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which was tasked to select the new coach, chose Anil Kumble instead. Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and BCCI convenor Sanjay Jagdale were other members of the committee.
