Dhoni is just three sixes shy of usurping Tendulkar in the list of most ODI sixes by an Indian batsman.

Having usurped Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni now on course to break this Sachin Tendulkar record

New Delhi: One of India's most successful captains MS Dhoni is recognized world over for having won several matches single-handedly over the course of a spectacular career.

Dhoni has established himself as one of the game's most lethal finishers and also has a reputation of turning the game in his side's favour, no matter what the odds are.

Even West Indian great Ian Bishop once said, "If 15 runs are needed off the last over, pressure is on the bowler... not on MS Dhoni"

The introduction of T20 has unarguably raised the pace of cricket, with the game being more dominated by batsmen and records being broken on a regular basis. (READ: Rameez Raja picks all-time XI - Three Indians, but just one Pakistani make it to the list)

Mahi too is on course to beat a record set by the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar for most number of sixes by an Indian in ODIs.

Earlier, Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly held the top two spots for India with 195 and 190 sixes to their name, respectively.

But now, Dhoni is just three sixes shy of usurping Tendulkar in the list of most ODI sixes by an Indian batsman. (READ: Anurag Thakur rips into Sandeep Patil for remarks on Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni's retirements)

Here's how the top 10 list looks like:

Batsman Sixes
Shahid Afridi 351
Sanath Jayasuriya 270
Chris Gayle 238
Brendon McCullum 200
Sachin Tendulkar 195
MS Dhoni 192
Saurav Ganguly 190
AB de Villiers 182
Ricky Ponting 162
Chris Cairns 153

India play their next ODI on Oct 16 against New Zealand, which would mark the beginning of a 5-match ODI series and skipper Dhoni will have his eyes set on registering his name in the record books again.

Despite being questioned for poor form of late, Dhoni has managed to keep both captaincy and his place in the squad, and he will be aiming to prove the doubters wrong when he leads the Indian side against the Kiwis this October.
