India will be playing only three ODIs and three T20Is against England before the Champions Trophy commences in June.
New Delhi: Though fitness plays a big role, every sportsmen is supposed to call times on his career before the performance levels drop significantly.
MS Dhoni, who is an incredibly fit cricketer, has already quit Test cricket and could be heading out ODIs too in the near future.
The on going India-New Zealand series gives him a chance to play in front of his home crowd with the 4th ODI being played in Ranchi, an apportunity that every sportsmen would love to pounce on.
The match becomes even more special considering this could be the last time ever Mahi plays a one-day International at the JSCA International Stadium Complex.
In a packed home season of Tests, India will be playing only three ODIs and three T20Is against England before the Champions Trophy commences in June.
It's not that Ranchi will be deprived of cricketing action all together, there is a match schedule to take place in the stadium against Australia early next year but that is a Test. Since Dhoni has retired from the traditional format of the game, massive doubts arise whether his hometown will see him play in the Indian blue again.
For the Champions Trophy, while some expect Virat Kohli to replace MS Dhoni as India's captain, while some believe that the latter still has a lot of cricket left in him and as long as he is in the team it is hard to see him playing under the captaincy of someone else.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Keshav Banerjee, the man who made Dhoni switch from being a football goalkeeper to one of the finest cricket wicket keepers in the world, believes that Mahi will continue to play till the next World Cup.
“He will play the 2019 World Cup. He has been working out a lot and can run faster than most youngsters in the team,” Banerjee was quoted by HT.
Only time will tell whether Dhoni continues to play for India till the next World Cup but he for sure would be willing to woo the home crowd with a scintillating performance with what might be his last ever outing in the stadium as a player.
