BCCI felicitates Zaheer Khan at presentation ceremony of India-South Africa fifth ODI match

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) accorded a fitting felicitation to former India speedster Zaheer Khan after the end of fifth One-Day International match between India and South Africa at his home ground Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

A commemorative plaque was given to the 37-year-old by batting great Sachin Tendulkar in the presence of BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur and Maharashtra Cricket Association president Sharad Pawar and hosts of former players and cricket officials.

Speaking at the function, Zaheer said he is "humble and honoured to see such overwhelming response."

"Happy that my final speech is happening at Wankhede again," he added.

Always regarded as one of India's greatest ever pace bowlers, Zaheer took the retirement call as he felt that he was not fit enough to deal with the rigours of the modern game.

He announced the retirement on October 15.

Zaheer made his ODI debut on October 3, 2000 vs Kenya at Nairobi and scalped 282 wickets in 200 ODIs.

He also picked 311 wickets in 92 Tests to become India's fourth highest wicket-taker overall.
