Nashik: A fixed-wing two-seater chopper, `Pushpak`, was on Thursday given a warm welcome at Army Aviation Corps (AAC) base here when it touched down after flying 9,800 kms as part of an expedition.
Commandant of School of Artillery, Lt Gen Gurdeep Singh and Commandant of Combat Army Aviation School, Brigadier Rajiv Raina welcomed `Pushpak`, piloted by Brigadier AS Siddhu and his team. `Pushpak` was escorted by Cheetah, Chetak and Dhruv helicopters. The expedition began from Bangalore on February 13 this year and `Pushpak` visited 27 Army Aviation bases of the country before arriving here after completing its journey.
The expedition was part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the AAC and also 100th year of civil aviation, an Army release said here. Pushpak was deployed in aerial surveillance operations during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, it added.
