Death penalty for Belarusian bombers: Prosecutor

Minsk: A prosecutor in Belarus is seeking the death penalty for two men accused of carrying out
a deadly terrorist attack in the capital.
The April bombings in Minsk`s subway system left 15 people dead and hundreds wounded. Investigators say the suspected bombers, explosive enthusiasts Dmitry Konovalov and Vladislav Kovalyov, were not members of a terrorist group and were driven by "hatred for humankind," not political motives.
State prosecutor Alexei Stuk told the court today the accused need "capital punishment".
The suspects also are accused of three other nonfatal bombings in 2005 and 2008.
Authoritarian Belarus is Europe`s only nation that still puts people to death, and rights activists claim some 400 people have been executed here since the 1991 Soviet collapse.
