Mysore: Amid tight security, a team of six officials belonging to the state Religious Endowment department (Muzrai) on Sunday conducted search at the Sosale Vyasaraj Mutt here, police said.
The search was a part of a probe being conducted against the mutt pontiff Vidyamanohara Theertha Swamy, who is alleged to have pledged inventoried mutt property and used the money for personal benefit, police said.
A case of cheating was filed against the pontiff, his mother and Mutt`s administrative officer BR Nataraj Jois in December last for allegedly pledging inventoried gold ornaments and valuable articles belonging to the mutt with a city-based financier, police said.
Muzrai sources said the state government has appointed senior IAS officer K Jairaj as the mutt administrator for two years. However, religious activities at the mutt would continue and transactions conducted under the control of the new administrator, sources said. PTI
