Proposed bill making ISI accountable withdrawn
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari`s spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar has withdrawn his proposed draft bill following immense pressure.
Islamabad: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari`s spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar has withdrawn his proposed draft bill pertaining to the accountability of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), following immense pressure exerted by certain quarters, opposition and coalition partners.
Babar had submitted the bill in his own capacity in the Senate on July 05. According to Senate Secretariat, the proposed draft, if adopted by Parliament, would have made the ISI answerable before Parliament and the Prime Minister, reports the Daily Times.
The draft was taken back on the same day after facing extreme pressure from all ends including political, opposition and military, the Senate Secretariat added. ANI
