Indian Premier League 2016: Five most record-breaking facts from ninth season

New Delhi: With every new Indian Premier League season, we witness new records. And the ongoing ninth edition is no different.

As IPL 2016 is heading towards its business end, here are few record-breaking facts of the season.

Rohit Sharma scored five fifties in as many innings while chasing in IPL 2016, the most by a batsman in a single edition of IPL.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's strike bowlers - Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashish Nehra – bowled one maiden over each to start the bowling proceedings against Gujarat Lions on May 6. It has never happened in the history of IPL before. Interestingly, they were bowling to two of the most dangerous batsmen in world cricket -- Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum.

RCB's Virat Kohli slammed two centuries this season, which made him the maiden skipper to do so in a single edition. He first scored a hundred against Gujarat Lions and then smashed 108* against Rising Pune Supergiants in Bangalore to achieve the feat.

After Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir has become the 2nd skipper to captain in 100 IPL matches. Under the captaincy of Gambhir, KKR has already won two titles. In the past, he had captained Delhi Daredevils in 15 matches.

DD's Rishabh Pant has become the 2nd youngest player to score a maiden half-century in IPL at 18 years & 212 days. Sanju Samson is still the youngest in the list, as he hit his first fifty, when he was just 18 years & 169 days.
