Maharashtra drought: Kanpur, Ranchi, Indore reportedly emerge as alternate IPL venues

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly shortlisted Kanpur, Ranchi and Indore as possible alternate venues to host the 13 Indian Premier League (IPL) matches which were asked be moved out from drought-hit Maharashtra by the Bombay High Court.

The Bombay High Court, earlier on Wednesday, ordered the organisers IPL to hold no matches in Maharashtra after April 30. The state has two teams in the cash-rich franchise-based Twenty20 league, in defending champions Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants.

And their home matches were scheduled at Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai for MI and Maharashtra Cricket Stadium, Pune for RPS. Besides Kings XI Punjab also have home matches at Nagpur.

Reacting to the verdict, the BCCI admitted that shifting the venues in such a short notice will be a gargantuan task for the organisers.

But according to a report in IBTimes, the cities of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Ranchi in Jharkhand and Indore in Madhya Pradesh have already been shortlisted as the possible new venues to host these re-scheduled matches.
