New Delhi: New Zealand batsman Colin Munro smashed the Sri Lankan bowlers all around Eden Park as hosts romped off to a nine-wicket victory to seal the Twenty20 series.
Munro took just 14 balls to score his whirlwind fifty and became the second fastest batsman to notch this feat in international cricket. India's Yuvraj Singh has the record of the fastest T20 fifty (12 balls). He achieved the feat in 2007 ICC T20 World Cup against England.
Munro fell short of Yuvraj by just two deliveries.
Interestingly, Munro broke Martin Guptill's fastest T20 fifty record in a space of five overs. Guptill bludgeoned the hapless Lanka bowlers after reaching his fifty in just 19 balls. He scored a breezy 63 off just 25 deliveries on Sunday.
Guptill scored the sixth fastest T20 half-century tied with India's Gautam Gambhir.
Here is the list of fastest T20 international fifties.
Yuvraj Singh (India vs England): 12 balls
Colin Munro (New Zealand vs Sri Lanka): 14 balls
PR Stirling (Ireland vs Afghanistan): 17 balls
Chris Gayle (West Indies vs South Africa): 17 balls
