Players` agents to have test, interview and police clearance, suggests Lodha Committee
Test and interview will show the concerned person is suitable to be an agent of a player or not.
New Delhi: The Justice RM Lodha Committee has suggested new measures in order to taking care of the integrity of players' agents.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, there will be a written examination followed by a personal interview for the agents. If this wasn't enough, the committee also added the policy of submitting a police character certificate and clearance certificate in addition.
The Lodha report states that the BCCI will conduct a test and personal interview to enable the committee to judge whether the concerned person is suitable to be an agent of a player. The board will also see if the proposed agent has an adequate knowledge of cricket regulations including the relevant disciplinary and ethics regulations laid down by the BCCI or the IPL.
The agent should also have knowledge in the fields of legal, accounting and business management.
Further reports suggest that the Supreme Court is yet to ask the BCCI to implement the report. It is unknown what will be the reaction of the agents but some of them welcomed the decision.
Dinesh Chopra, who manages Delhi and Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir told the Hindustan Times that it is a good idea to have a test and an interview as sponsorship deal isn't the only task of agents.
He went on to add that an agent's relationship with a player is a lot more. Sometimes, the players are said to share and confide more than his family and therefore the credibility needs to be impeccable.
Dinesh further went on to say that he feels it shouldn’t be a one-time exam but a regular one.
There will also be a police clearance for the agents as the given person must submit a clearance certificate issued by the Anti-corruption Security Unit (ACSU) of the ICC which ensures that strict anti-corruption protocol is followed by all stakeholders.
The report was submitted to the SC on Monday.
